In Diggelen is a collection of ultra-short stories, microfictions. A rich collection of observations, thoughts and images. A mosaic of wit, melancholy, absurdity, poetry and social criticism. The tone is reminiscent of writers such as Remco Campert, Jules Deelder, and sometimes Willem Frederik Hermans – at times vicious, then again disarmingly honest or tenderly absurd. Van Wely writes in a narrative voice full of self-mockery, but also with a keen eye for detail and a pleasure in language.
