In Diggelen is a collection of ultra-short stories, microfictions. A rich collection of observations, thoughts and images. A mosaic of wit, melancholy, absurdity, poetry and social criticism. The tone is reminiscent of writers such as Remco Campert, Jules Deelder, and sometimes Willem Frederik Hermans – at times vicious, then again disarmingly honest or tenderly absurd. Van Wely writes in a narrative voice full of self-mockery, but also with a keen eye for detail and a pleasure in language. What if logic bends, if thoughts behave like water, if we no longer know what rules are? In this collection we wander through the city, across squares, past cafés, trams and inner rooms. Man as a passer-by, as a standstill, as an observer. Almost two hundred texts, sometimes a page and a half long, sometimes only one line. A variety that gives air and makes the reader think. Snapshots that burn long in the memory, and that you want to read again afterwards.
