Klaas van Rhijn lives on the predominantly protestant island of Dordrecht. He is married to the Catholic Anna. Not easy in a country where Protestants and Catholics are increasingly fighting each other.
When Constantine is crowned king in 1891, it is unimaginable that the Netherlands and Belgium will be united again. Yet the king, who converted to Catholicism, manages to achieve this. In the newly united Netherlands, the contradictions between the two faiths are increasing.
After years of built-up tension, the fighting and bullying escalate into a civil war.
Klaas and Anna literally live on the border between the fighting parties. They have to make difficult choices and experience what it is like to live in a torn country.
Johan van de Velde:
Johan (1966) lives in Dordrecht and works as a bookkeeper, which apart from a pun has little to do with writing. In his spare time he writes many stories and you can also read match reports and columns on the website of the Dubbeldam football club.
His interest in history is noticeable in his debut 'Burgeroorlog'.
