The Invisible Power of Love
Lies and Koos Spijk live in Keutelaarshoek, one of the three hamlets that make up Achterbroek-Dorp. The relationship between the sixty-somethings has fizzled out, while that between the villagers has become stagnant.
The unexpected confrontation with a hushed-up tragic event from the family's past during World War II puts their relationships on edge.
There is only one way to reunite the main characters and the community. Lies, Koos, their daughter Esther, newcomer Hila, and a host of striking villagers play a key role in this. The central character, however, is the mysterious Grijze veulen.
"Het grijze veulen" is an ode to courageous people and especially to strong women.
Robert Beernink:
Robert (born 1958) is a writer of short, grand stories.
“For years, I wanted to write a story that intertwined contemporary themes with history and an old folk tale. That became 'The Gray Foal'. The title is inspired by the eponymous legend.”
ProBeeld (Ton de Koning) is responsible for the cover design.
