Fifteen hundred years ago, the wise governor Iospar of Toldamerin was brutally murdered in the Lin Empire. At the same time, the highly developed Lin people were exterminated and their culture destroyed. All this happened on the orders of a jealous and cruel emperor in a distant land.
Today, sixteen-year-old hunter Lyss begins his mission so that he will be admitted among the adults in his village. Suddenly the village is stormed by an unknown enemy and Lyss barely manages to survive. Later the settlement appears to have been completely destroyed, all residents have disappeared. Lyss lives alone for months, with a young lynx for company, in the vast forests of the Lindran.
Are these events related?
Opposed by fate and with the stern gaze of the enigmatic Doi at his back, Lyss sets out to get answers to his questions.
And every answer leads to new questions...
